Prepare the right records. Share them at the right time.

A staged China police certificate checklist for foreign applicants, including passports, residence evidence, authorization, identity photos and destination instructions.

Checked 13 October 2026For foreign residents & former residents

First inquiry: no identity files

  • City or cities where you lived and approximate dates.
  • Broad status: work, study, family residence, permanent residence or other stay.
  • Document requested, receiving country or organization and deadline.
  • Whether you still have your old passports, permits and accommodation registrations — say yes/no rather than uploading them.

After assessment: identity and residence

A confirmed route may require a valid passport, relevant historical passports, China residence permits, entry/exit pages, accommodation registrations and the foreign-applicant form. We identify the necessary records and pages; this list is not a request to submit every passport page.

Where a name or passport number changed, explain the connection. If an old document is missing, ask which replacement evidence the accepting office recognizes before ordering or creating anything.

For a representative

Expect an office-approved authorization and the representative’s valid identity document. Overseas notarization, Apostille / legalisation, Chinese translation and original-paper requirements are confirmed before you sign. A family-member route may not have the same requirements as appointing a non-relative agent.

Identity photos: office-specific, never assumed

An office may ask for a photo holding your passport or signed authorization, or another identity check. Nanning Beibuwan Notary Office’s published delegated-notarization checklist specifically mentions holding the authorization. That is an example of a local requirement, not a rule for every China PCC.

For the finished document

  • The receiving organization’s instructions, with personal identifiers removed for the preliminary review.
  • The exact period to be covered, required language and number of copies.
  • Any specified notarial statement, translation certification or Apostille / legalisation.
  • Whether scans are accepted for the intended submission or originals must be delivered.

Before sending or altering a file

Wait for the agreed request and verify unexpected upload links with our published number. Send the requested records through the agreed channel, rather than posting them in a public forum or group chat. Do not redact, crop or watermark a required filing document unless the receiving office accepts that version.

Keep your own copy of the agreed scope, authorization and file request. Ask how long working copies will be retained and how to request deletion, taking account of records an authority must keep.
